NATO is escalating its drive to war in Europe. At the 2025 NATO Summit the US demanded that European NATO states raise their levels of military spending to 5% of GDP (3.5% directly on the military and 1.5% on military related infrastructure). Most European NATO states have agreed to make the massive shifts of resources to this war-drive that the 5% target requires.
In this video, Dae-Han Song interviews Nel Bonilla about the current orientation of NATO, its 2025 and 2026 summits, and the division of labour between European states' making preparations to be directly involved in military combat, whilst the US directs the overall war-drive.
Nel Bonilla is an independent researcher and geographer, and the author of the Substack newsletter Worldlines. With a background in human geography, she is currently pursuing her doctorate in the sociology of migration and the sociology of violence. Her analytical work focuses on geopolitics, transatlantic networks, and the social dynamics of organized violence. In addition to her independent research, she is a contributing author for the critical German news and analysis website NachDenkSeiten.

Dae-Han Song is a writer and organizer based in South Korea, a nation technically still at war. He works at the International Strategy Center in Seoul, and focuses on building people-to-people solidarity and challenging the logic of militarism and empire on the Korean Peninsula. He is actively involved in movements for peace, reunification, and against the presence of foreign military bases. He is also an associate of the Korea Policy Institute. He is also a member of the international No Cold War collective.
