The US siege imposed on Cuba has been dramatically tightened this year. Supplies of oil to the island have been blocked. The most recent new US sanctions are preventing all types of essential supplies reaching Cuban ports. The blockade is threatening Cubansโ rights to life, health and development.
In South Africa, the movement in solidarity with Cuba is currently stepping up its activity, collecting food and medicines, and raising funds for solar panels and other vital goods. It is also campaigning to persuade governments in the region to take an active role in support of Cuba. There is vast support for Cuba amongst the South African population. Cuba is held in high regard because of the enormous sacrifices it made assisting the liberation struggles in southern Africa and the support it still provides to African countries at present.
In this video, Mikaela Nhondo Erskog interviews Molly Dhlamini about the solidarity of South Africa with Cuba.
